Ken Miller was first elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2004 as part of a historic election year that gave Republicans control of the House for only the second time in the state’s history. Miller is currently serving his third term in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, where he represents the citizens of District 81.
Miller’s financial background led to him to the position of vice-chair of the House Appropriations and Budget Committee after only two years in the Legislature. One year later he was elevated to the position of chair where he immediately sought opportunities for modernization and efficiency. Now in his third session as chair, Miller oversees seven subcommittees responsible for state fiscal policy. He has implemented Oklahoma’s largest-ever reduction in government spending while maintaining the delivery of core government services.
Miller has been recognized for his contributions to limited government and economic development with the Defender of Free Enterprise Award from the State Chamber of Oklahoma and the Distinguished Service Award from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from Lipscomb University, a master’s degree in business administration from Pepperdine University and a doctorate through the department of economics at the University of Oklahoma. His area of specialization is political economics.
Miller is an economics professor at Oklahoma Christian University where he teaches the virtues of the free market at the graduate and undergraduate level . He was honored with the “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” award and the Merrick Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching Free Enterprise.
Prior to his election to the State Legislature, Miller served in Governor Frank Keating’s administration as the Chairman of the Legislative Compensation Board where he set in place a ten-year freeze on legislative salaries and rejected any increase in compensation during his four years leading the board. Before entering public service, Miller gained practical experience in the private sector. He began his professional career in banking at First American National Bank before joining MediFax-EDS where he served as the financial operations manager.
Miller actively serves as a member of the Edmond Economic Development Authority Board of Trustees, the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence Board of Trustees, the Southern Economic Association and the Christian Business Faculty Association.
