OKLAHOMA CITY (May 3, 2007) – Time is running out for Oklahomans to order a "Global War on Terrorism" license plate, state Rep. Rex Duncan said today.
"The ‘Global War on Terrorism’ plate is a great way to give moral support to our troops and financial support to 45th Infantry Division Museum, but time is limited," said Duncan, R-Sand Springs. "If we don’t obtain enough orders by May 31, this specialty plate will be discontinued."
Duncan authored legislation creating the "Global War on Terrorism" license plate during the 2006 legislative session. State officials must receive at least 100 orders before the plates can be issued or the program will be discontinued.
The cost for the plate is $37. Duncan noted that $20 generated by each license plate will go to the 45th Infantry Division Museum in Oklahoma City.
The 45th Infantry Division Museum, which is free to the public, is currently funded through minor state appropriations and private donations.
Although the specialty plate was authorized nearly one year ago, logistical problems slowed the creation of the plate
The deadline to receive the 100 applications for the license plate is May 31, 2007.
"We’re short on time," Duncan said. "If we do not receive enough orders this month, the tag will not be produced and the 45th Infantry Division Museum will lose a source of funding."
To order a plate, Oklahomans should download Form 708-E from the Oklahoma Tax Commission website at www.tax.ok.gov. Applications and payments can be mailed back to the Tax Commission at the address on the form. Any Oklahoma tag agent office may also accept the applications and payments.
The plate’s design may be viewed at www.tax.ok.gov/plates/sp145.html.
"You don’t have to be a veteran of the War on Terrorism to obtain the license tag," Duncan said. "It’s a ‘show of support’ tag that I believe many Oklahomans will be proud to display."
