Rep. Nicole Miller, R-Edmond, spoke Tuesday at the Summer Safety Conference for the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma on the state's transportation needs, the improvements to bridge safety and the increased cap for the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges (CIRB) Fund.

Miller was one of several general session speakers and highlighted increased infrastructure funding passed by the Legislature in May.

"Poor road conditions and crumbling bridges have plagued Oklahoma's infrastructure for far too long because their funding need wasn't met for years," Miller said. "Our county commissioners, eight Circuit Engineering Districts and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation have been doing great work to identify areas where we need to make investment. We have seen huge improvements in the conditions of our roads and bridges thanks to their work and the Legislature's commitment to addressing these concerns, and we must continue our efforts to make Oklahoma a top-ranked state in infrastructure."

As chair of the House Appropriations & Budget Subcommittee on Transportation, Miller played integral role in the effort to pass House Bill 4459, which makes step increases to the annual allocation cap to the CIRB Fund from $120 million to $150 million. The additional funding is phased in over a six-year period, with increases to the cap of $5,000,000 per year until the $150,000,000 cap is reached for Fiscal Year 2028.

According to ODOT, CIRB funding played a key role in the replacement of 728 county bridges and over 1,150 miles of improved county roadways since 2006.
