STATEMENT: HB2866 Signed into law, a bill for the people

OKLAHOMA CITY – State Rep. Jason Lowe, D-Oklahoma City, released the following statement today after his bill offering fee oversight was signed by Gov. Mary Fallin. House Bill 2866 ensures future changes in Department of Human Services’ fees are vetted and approved by the Legislature before enactment.

“I am honored to say that House Bill 2866 is signed and is now law in the state of Oklahoma. This bill restricts the Oklahoma Department of Human Services from implementing new fees on child support recipients without your voice being heard.

I authored this bill because before any new fee is created, we must allow the people to have a say in the matter. I understand that this state has repeatedly cut the budget for DHS, and I am hopeful for a day where that funding will be restored. However, we cannot force a group of hard working mothers and fathers around the state to carry that burden. This bill helps protect the people of House District 97 as well as the rest of the state. That’s why we’re here, and that’s what I’m fighting for!”
