Rep. Monroe Nichols, D-Tulsa, released the following statement in response to Governor Kevin Stitt’s speech at the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce this morning.

“Governor Stitt hasn’t held a press conference on COVID since March, but today, he found time to address the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce.

“In his speech, he didn’t mention the 7,800 Oklahomans we have lost to COVID nor did he mention COVID at all. There was no plea to citizens to get vaccinated or any plan to protect the voters who elected him.

“Instead, the Governor chose to show unnecessary hostility toward our state’s oldest allies, the sovereign tribal nations. In a time that we should be working together, the Governor continues to use national talking points and political rhetoric to divide Oklahomans.

“This crisis has left Oklahomans begging for a leader, and at every turn, Governor Stitt has shown that it isn’t him. The Governor’s speech today proved him to be the most divisive and ineffective leader in our state’s history - he has no record of accomplishment or plans for Oklahoma’s future.”
