OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma House of Representatives and Senate convened today in a joint session at the State Capitol to honor the service and sacrifice of Oklahoma’s military veterans.

The annual ceremony, held during the 60th Legislature’s regular session on the House Floor, recognized Armed Services veterans who call Oklahoma home.

“Oklahoma’s story is inseparable from the courage and character of its veterans,” said House Speaker Kyle Hilbert, R-Bristow. “These men and women answered the call to serve with honor, integrity and an unwavering commitment to freedom. Today, we not only recognize their service, but we also recommit ourselves as lawmakers to ensuring they have the resources, respect and opportunities they deserve."

Senate Pro Tempore Lonnie Paxton, R-Tuttle, emphasized the importance of supporting veterans.

“When we come together as one Legislature - Republicans and Democrats, House and Senate to honor our veterans, we send a powerful message: that gratitude transcends politics,” said Pro Tem Paxton. “Our veterans are a living testament to the best of Oklahoma. They are our neighbors, co-workers and family members. They are the individuals who defend our freedoms and our rights to remain a free nation. It is our solemn duty to ensure they receive the honor and support they have rightfully earned.”
