House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson condemns law expanding use of tax dollars for private schools
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson, D-Oklahoma City, released the following statement condemning the expansion of the Parental Choice Tax Credit, HB 3705, signed into law.
“Oklahoma continues to rank dead last in the nation for public education without the critical financial investments needed to move us out of that ranking,” said Leader Munson. “Every additional dollar appropriated to our public schools this year has a mandate attached to it. There is no additional mandate, oversight, transparency, or accountability for our public tax dollars that go to private schools–and now, that amount will balloon to $275M. Imagine that amount of money going to our public schools to lower class sizes, increase counselors and school nurses, and provide a competitive teacher and support staff pay increase. During Public School Appreciation Week, we should be pushing for more funding going to our public schools, not another voucher scheme signed by the Governor.”
